From Shakti Butler, director of “Cracking the Codes: The System of Inequity” and “Mirrors of Privilege: Making the Whiteness Visible,” “The Way Home” brings together diverse women to talk about their experience of racism in America. The film shares the courageous reflections of sixty-four women representing a cross-section of cultures (Indigenous, African-American, Arab/Middle Eastern, Asian, European-American, Jewish, Latina and Multiracial), whose varied experienced with resistance, love, assimilation, standards of beauty, power, and school experiences provide provocative insights into the female perspective on racism.
The film is designed to be viewed and then discussed using a downloadable conversation guide. The guide gives viewers the tools they need to reflect on their personal reactions to the film, as well as to address broader issues like oppression at the institutional level.
